He served on the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School faculty from 1982 to 2015. He graduated cum laude from Hobart College\, received a Ph.D. in immunology from Mt. Sinai School of Medicine\, and an MD from Southwestern Medical School. Following training in pediatrics and a fellowship in bone marrow transplantation and immunology at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia\, he was a fellow at Rockefeller University and then became Chief of Pediatric Allergy and Immunology at Southwestern Medical School. In 1988\, Wasserman started a private practice in allergy/ immunology and a research group that has conducted more than 125 FDA-approved studies.
